THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SIWAK (SALVADORA PERSICA) EXTRACT’S KILLING CAPABILITY AGAINST STREPTOCOCCUS VIRIDANS (IN VITRO)

Background: Streptococcus viridans is an anaerobic bacteria that cause root canal infection. The irrigation materials have antibacterial and non-toxic effects greatly support the success of treatment. Sodium hypochlorite must be used with extreme caution because it can irritate periapical tissue when at high concentrations has a pungent odor interferes patient comfort. Siwak (Salvadora persica) plant components including tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids. This study aims to determine effectiveness siwak extract’s killing capability against (in vitro). Method: study’s method post-test only control group design experimental laboratory research consisting 5 groups, negative (DMSO), positive (sodium hypochlorite), 3 treatment groups using extract 55%, 60%, 65%. maceration dilution 25 samples. Result: result was analyzed Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric statistical test significant 0.00 (p<0.05) Conclusion: It concluded effective concentration 60%.
